Does anyone know the names of animal welfare organisations in Italy especially in the rome/fiumicino area? Do they have their equivalent of the RSPCA? Are there charities/organizations set up to help stray cats and dogs?

Any advice how I can find this info?

I have a veterinary nurse friend in Le Marche and will see if she has any suggestions.  In the meantime, I would recommend contacting the closes veterinary school to you, probably Perugia, and see if they have any suggestions.  You could also try phoning a few local animal hospitals to ask. My husband graduated from the U. of Pisa Faculty of Vet. Med. but we don't have any contacts near you.

You are most welcome.  The friend I mentioned just sent this for you:

"There are actually quite a few animal charities around there but I think this is the most well known."

ENPA is the closest thing to the RSPCA in Italy. Most areas have rehoming centres run by volunteers and if they are lucky part-funded by the local councils to take in strays. Many vets run programs of free neutering.

If you are looking to make a donation I would really really recommend one to help the animals that have been affected by the earthquake. So many have been abandoned as their owners have had to go into temporary accommodation where pets are not allowed. I know OIPA are doing a lot of work there. I also have some friends who ared raising money and taking food to the animals eveyr fortnight.
