Oh what a night !
Woken at 3.35'ish the house shaking and lumps of plaster and tiles falling off the wall. Doggie having a nervous breakdown so we all hid in the car. Many aftershocks happening, hope they stop soon. Very scary. Hope you are all ok.....

Re: Oh what a night !
Thx Casa Monal for your kind thoughts. When the quake happened I did wonder if the house would remain standing, there was so much shaking and swaying....and it went on for nearly 20 seconds....many after shocks including a big one half an hr later. Amatrice has been badly hit, damage in Amandola and Gualdo apparently, so far 6 dead, I think in Umbria...all very unsettling, much calming tea needed to steady the nerves....

Terrible news! Keep safe, everything else can be fixed. Animals are very sensitive to these events.
The nervous breakdown is not surprising....

Funnily enough Gala, Jaffa cat shot out when it started and my bike toppled over making a horrid crashing noise. Tom cat jumped off the bed had a snack and got back up on the bed ! No Fear !

Re: Oh what a night !
Just wish they were Ghiro but the death toll keeps rising....Friends have offered accomadation to those affected including their animals....so many kind and thoughtful people. Just had another significant shock at about 1.45....I don't think I will be sleeping much tonight unless I decide to camp out....!

Re: Oh what a night !
Glad you and hopefully all others are ok in the affected areas. Thought I had too much red wine to drink when the walls started shaking like jelly. Some things got smashed and there are a few cracks in the walls, which we understand that the commune will possibly repair if we take pics.
Heard Amandola hospital was evacuated as part of the old building collapsed, but difficult to get confirmation at the moment.
Aftershocks are still coming, so will see how the day pans out!!
Take care all.

Re: Oh what a night !
The after shocks could go on for a month....The possibility of another similar or worse quake is also not ruled out so the nerves will be tested...Emergency bag packed and ready to go by the front door and sleeping in clothes inc trainers incase a quick exit needed....Houses nearby flattened or walls down.....not good Casa Monal.....

It must be an absolute terrifying experience, not to mention the whole uncertainty of the continuing aftershocks.
I have the deepest respect for the rescue workers and volunteers who put their own lives at risk. There is still a chance of finding survivors according to this morning's news report...

Re: Oh what a night !
FYI, Our comune is advising people to sleep downstairs in a safe place for another 2 weeks and not to have friends / family to visit until after then. Grim eh !
