What are your thoughts ?  I know some do and some dont but after your pet has had all its initial jabs and won't be going to a kennels in the near future, lives in the countryside and sees few other dogs I am unsure whether or not they are necessary.

It all seems to depend on the type of vaccine used http://pets.webmd.com/pet-vaccines-schedules-cats-dogs but really, only your vet can tell you.
As for rabies, particularly in the countryside wild animals may transmit the desease, which is really horrible. Only those duly vaccinated are out of danger.

Thx Gala for the link, very interesting.  Seems a trip to the vet is needed, at least every 3 years and maybe more often than that. As you say, rabies is fatal along with other diseases, better to be safe than sorry.

If you live in the countryside it is even more important that you get your Dog vaccinated, as the countryside is where Hunters and Pastore take their dogs and in every likelihood they don't have their dogs vaccinated against anything.
If you truly care for your dog you never leave thinks to chance as a dog suffering from Parvovirus is not a pretty sight.

It depends on where you live too. For example here in Western Liguria we don't have heart worm but we do have leishmaniasis.

Message recieved and understood Flip.  A friend in Umbria has just lost one of her dogs to parvo...not a young dog but not an old dog...Her vet says thay have had 20 cases of parvo in the last few weeks / months.  I had asked her about the vaccination thing a couple of years ago (she runs a rescue centre for animals) and she did not think it was necessary...!

I'm on the case Penny, off to the vets, not park we go....I suppose we have not been as vigilant as we should have been mainly due to lack of funds and the daunting prospect of the car ride....Even after no food or water in the morning she is sick, sick, sick all the way there and back,  A friend in the UK has had good results with Dorwest herbal medicine Skullcap and Valerian for travel sickness, may give it a try....
