Mortgages
Hi
I am looking into buying a holiday home in Tuscany and am looking for opinions on whether to get a Italian or UK mortgage? The mortgage would be for about 50% of the property. Anyone else bought in Italy who could share any tips/experiances?
Thanks

Re: Mortgages
We mortgaged our UK place to buy the Italian holiday home - getting an Italian mortgage can [apparently] be horrendous at times

Re: Mortgages
Assuming you are not going to be resident in Italy, then getting an Iltalian mortgage means a mountain of paperwork, in Italian. THere are some mortgage sellers who say its easy - I have done it repeatedly over the years and have now stopped even trying. You can extend you mortgage in the UK in euros, or get a euro mortgage in the UK - so I would recommend that route than entering into the nightmare of Italian bureaucracy. Also the cost of a mortgage and the public act it requries in Italy is added onto your purchase costs.
Re: Mortgages
Thanks for the replies. I will concentrate on the UK sector then.
