Vipers and dogs
Just as a warning in case some are unaware.
Our English Setter was bitten on the mouth 4 days ago, by one of these. So far he has managed to survive by staying in the vets for 3 days on drips etc. Yesterday he was given a blood transfusion from our Maremmano, which seemed to help, as blood count has got better.
There are quite a lot of vipers about at the moment, especially in the Sibillini area as the forestall, dropped a lot there to stop mice!!!!!!!!!

Re: Vipers and dogs
Little more of a update. Dog has had the all clear this evening.
Signs to look out for if one of yours are bitten:
Swelling in the area, ours the bottom lip really dropped and his face started swelling. He got very lethargic, but luckily we took him to the vet straight away.
Red blood count dropped to very low level, so it was 50/50 survival at one stage.
He had 3 days in intensive care with multiple drips and injections before he was reasonably stabilized, and then had the transfusion from our other dog. From what we understand, this can only be done once, but is still hit and miss as to whether it works.
Anyway, all seems back to normal now, after nearly 500 euros, but worth it.
Thanks to Vicino and Angie for their wishes for him.

Glad to hear that it has survived and is definitely on the mend. Our dogs are too precious to us. I still miss mine and will always do...
