Vatican Bank (again!)

Most will remember Roberto Calvi who was found hanging under Blackfriars bridge in 1982 and that his death was linked to illegal goings on in the Vatican bank.

And today Monsignor Nunzio Scarano (+ 2 others) have been arrested for corruption and fraud at the very same Vatican Bank  

Not very godly behaviour in my opinion.

Trying to get 20 million in cash onto a private jet apparently.... God moves in mysterious ways!

This has been coming for a long time. One of the reasons why Pope Francis was elected was that he was the right person to reform the Church. The Vatican Bank affair is a scandal, but the Roman Curia had been protecting them for a long time. They are the rotten apples and they should be made responsible for their actions, no matter what. Two days ago, the newspapers were already reporting about this:

and it is known that the Pope said publicly that he wants a poor church for the poor. The Catholic Church is entering a new era. But there are quite a lot of enemies within the ranks of the Church. I can only hope that Pope Francis will be "allowed" to implement those reforms that he has in mind and these are the main reason why, very reluctantly, he accepted this time to become Pope. Last time, when Pope Ratzinger was elected, he had declined the offer. This time, he felt that it was his duty to accept. May God help him, as he is going to need lots of divine assistance and intervention.

Couldn't agree more.  I'm not religious myself (although I do believe in Ms D's spaceship  ) but I've always found the opulence of the RC church when compared to the grinding poverty of it's faithful, particularly in the 3rd world, very uncomfortable.

Pope Francis has always led a very austere life and has been involved in the welfare of the poor from the very start of his religious life. When he was appointed Cardinal-Archbishop of Buenos Aires, he refused to live in the Archbishop's Palace and stayed in a small flat next to the Cathedral.He cooked his own meals, used public transport and rejected all the paraphernalia of his predecessors. As a Pope, he refused to live in the Pope's apartments, prefers to live at the Santa Marta Residence, where other priests stay and queues up with  them to get his meals, sitting wherever he finds a vacant seat. He says that he likes to be able to talk informally with other people. He is a breath of fresh air...
