The Aldo Moro Mystery: Italian prosecutors revisit former PM's 1978 murder.
An interesting article in today's Guardian highlighting the possibility of a new inquiry into the assassination of one of Italy's most beloved politicians 35 years after the atrocity.

Will we ever know the truth? Not likely. Moro was a good man, but this is not enough. Whenever anyone tries to be redeemer, he (or she) ends up crucified.

I'm inclined to agree with you Gala. There are too many people at the top of the food chain with too much to loose if the truth ever became known. Personally and for what it's worth I think Andreotti was involved up to his neck and the convenient murder of the journalist Carmine Pecorelli just when he was about to publish an exposition of Andreotti boarders on the Romanesque approach to politics.

I totally agree. The truth will never be known. We can guess though... But before the true facts will be known... we will be dead... and nobody will remember who Aldo Moro was... Porca miseria!

Re: The Aldo Moro Mystery: Italian prosecutors revisit former PM's 1978 murder.
My husband had a hair-raising experience happen to him as a result of Aldo Moro's murder. He had been on holiday in Calabria with a group of friends and returned to a fellow student's apartment after many hours of travelling by train. The friend lived on Via Mario Fani, the road Moro was kidnapped from. Since my husband was dog tired, he decided to strip down and go to sleep.
In the meantime, my husband's Calabrian friend who owned the apartment, went outside to get a newspaper. He saw a suspicious car with 4 ugly looking men in it, so he pretended to drop a pencil and started to write down the license plate. The men bolted out of the car, surrounded him and asked who else was in the apartment.
My husband was awakened by the door bursting open and the four men came in. One pointed a machine gun at him, who was still lying in bed and demanded his "documenti." He slowly got out of bed and fortunately he had his papers with him that showed that he was inscribed at the University of Pisa. It took about 1 1/2 hours for the secret police to decide that my husband and the rest of the people in the apartment were okay.

A terrible experience, Lisa! I wish that they had used the same diligence to find Aldo Moro!
