A new look for our forum
You may have noticed we have changed a little.
Hopefully it is easy on the eye. I am looking for feedback so please leave me some even if it is just "Yuck - I want the old one back!"
Admin
PS - the thanks buttons will be coming back!

Re: A new look for our forum
Actually now I've had a look around, it seems to be easier on the eye. Like the new Headline photo. VG.

Certainly looks very smart. But the script has gone back to grey

Which script Ghiro? The text in the posts should be blue unless you choose otherwise.

Re: A new look for our forum
I seem to have lost the alert that there is a new post (the circular icon on the left, which used to be red when there was a new post in the sub-forum)

Re: A new look for our forum
It is yellow now when there is a new post. The indicators are a little smaller but I thought the whole thing was easier on the eye.
Please post a reply so I can amke sure that it is turning yellow.

Blue? Grey? For those of us with failing eyesight, who also need lunettes, black is what we favour!

Re: A new look for our forum
Is it possible to make the sidebars dragable, as the background wallpaper seems to take up too much space. Though that MsD's spaceship had landed and we were being invaded by little green men. Waited for them to start moving down the screen
Otherwise a much better layout, thanks.

Well - the thingy on the left hand side, alerting me to new posts is now working (though for me it is red rather than yellow)!

Re: A new look for our forum
For my eyes I need the contrast between typeface and background stronger. Black typeface would be clearer, particularly if trying to see the screen outside, which we sometimes have to do to get a signal!
Also the forum doesn't fill the screen on my computer, but has about a third of the screen spare each side with a flowery background.
I love the map at the top, and the overall colouring is subtle, but just a bit too subtle for old eyes!

Re: A new look for our forum
Yep. Like it.
I know some people won't like the space at the sides, But a narrower text area is much easier to read. You can easily lose your place if it fills the screen - especially with widescreen monitors - the bane of my life. It's like working through a letterbox for CAD applications.

And by the way, I know that there is little control over the advertising, but I hate the ones at the top of the page which have "download" buttons.

Re: A new look for our forum
Thanks for the feedback. So far most people seem to think it's an improvement.
I have made the text darker so I hope that helps. The size of the flowery side bars is partly determined by the width of your screen. So for example on my screen the white forum part is roughly 3/4 of the screen and the left and right flowery bits are 1/8 each side. If you have a flashy wider screen (or maybe a Mac) the proportions will be different. There isn't too much I can do about that I'm afraid - sorry.
Modicasa - can't find any way to default to not watching the topics. You can in your profile 'unwatch' en masse or turn off notifications for watched topics. I wonder if you are getting the emails becuase you have not unticked 'always notify me of replies' under the Preferences tab. Let me know if that doesn't resolve it for you.
Well, we can pay to remove the adverts but unless we start taking donations, we're stuck with the ads

Re: A new look for our forum
The yellow new post indicators are not very clear to me.
Why doesn't the thread with the latest post come to the top of the list?
If you don't spot the yellow sign, it's hard to spot the latest post.
Just trying to help

Re: A new look for our forum
The thread with the latest post does come to the top of the list of posts (I've just double checked General Chat). It is always possible I have missed one particular Board / Forum, so if you spot one please tell me which Board / Forum it is, but they should all be set this way.
The icon may or may not be yellow depending on if you've looked at it. I agree they are not as clear as the previous ones. If people feel strongly I will revert to the old ones. The only problem is they are bigger and so squish the rets of the text a bit more.

As above, bigger icon wouldn't be a problem for me.

What do we reckon? Are these icons easier to see. I think so but what do you all think?
