Can Life Get Any Better?

OH & I have had a couple of friends from England staying for the last few days.  What an excuse to get out and about!

On Monday we took the old road from Pontremoli up to the Passa della Cisa.  What spectacular views!   On arrival the men (who like military history) successfully went off to find the memorial on the spot where SAS soldiers Patrick Dudgeon and Bernard Brunt (both aged 21) were executed by the Nazis on 1/10/43 http://www.ww2connection.com/book_reviews/sas_in_tuscany.php  Meanwhile the women + dog walked down the top part of the Via Francigena http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Via_Francigena.  Meeting a while later we had a long, delicious and leisurely lunch in the charming village of Montelungo before returning home.

On Tuesday we took to the sea.  At Lerici we hired a RIB and powered over to Portovenere.  Having stopped there for a touch of shopping and refreshment we then went over to the local island of Palmaria where, at a beach side restaurant, we had (another) long, delicious and leisurely lunch!  After swimming in the refreshing sea off the boat we returned to Lerici and then to Casa Ghiro.

Yesterday we went down the autostrada to Versilia.  The men went to pay their respects at St. Anna di Stezzano, the site of one of the worst atrocities of WW11 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sant%27Anna_di_Stazzema_massacre while the women (without dog!) braved Forte dei Marmi market.  We subsequently all met up in FdM where (OK - you've guessed it!) we had (yet another) long, delicious and leisurely lunch.

Seriously though.  Can life get any better?    

You are right, Ghiro, what a tough life!!! We have made that sort of "sacrifices" in the past and we intend to keep on making them . Life wasn't meant to be easy!
