Perseid meteors and more
The perseids this year will be at their best in the early hours of Aug 11th and 12th and the moon will be conveniently out of the frame. While you are out looking you might see many satellites and even the International Space Station which is a bright object moving from West to East across the southern sky... it comes around quite fast so you might see it a couple of times.
There are a few web sites that will tell you if it is over you.
I was puzzled by a bright flashing (6 seconds) object the other night which turns out to be a tumbling satellite i.e. it is rolling as well as orbiting. I also saw a bright green shooting star or similar but I have no idea about that and it might have been a firework on a nearby hill.

The ISS varies it's tradegtory in relation to the Earth so it may also be SW to NE depending variation. It takes approx 90 mins to orbit.
