RESTORATION OF BRITISH CEMETERY IN BAGNI DI LUCCA
This afternoon we attended a ceremony to celebrate the progress of restoration works. Some 35,000€, most of those from private donations, have been spent over the past 2 years in the restoration of some of the historic tombs and replanting of trees. The place looks great and it isa credit to those who have worked so hard for this project. Here is a link to Debra Kolkka's blog where she explained what was being done with some pictures to illustrate. http://bellabagnidilucca.com/2012/09/09/the-anglican-cemetery-gets-a-makeover/
The ceremony was well attended and followed by a small but delightful concert by a young string quarted, playing works by Haendel, Beethoven and Puccini. Actually, Puccini's grandaughter also attended.

It looks a quiet and lovely spot now. Has there been a burial there in recent times?

Not recently Ghiro, I think the last was 1953, but I think it has something to do with the Comune not allowing this now. Wouldn't mind being planted there myself and rubbing Scapula with the nobs there...

Re: RESTORATION OF BRITISH CEMETERY IN BAGNI DI LUCCA
The cemetery was originally planned for 440 tombs, although only 137 people have been buried there, the last one - as you rightly said, Flip - back in 1953... some 60 years ago!!! Perhaps it is a matter of applying to the Comune... It is a lovely place to rest.
By the way, I heard that some years ago,a local businessman made an application to the Comune to buy the plot of land for industrial use... Fortunately, the Comune rejected the proposal
