Re: Costa Concordia
Seen this on the abruzzolutely forum and wondered why at such a cost?

Re: Costa Concordia
It simply has to be done, although there is a lot at stake http://www.cbc.ca/m/touch/world/story/1.1854630
Let's hope and pray for a success.

Re: Costa Concordia
I still don't understand why? is it to recover the 2 bodies, because the ship is a danger or because it's worth a lot of money? The article does not say why from what I read....

Re: Costa Concordia
Steve, the wreck HAS to be removed for environmental, tourism and ther factors. They cannot leave the Concordia in its present state. I do not think - unfortunately - that the recovery of the 2 bodies - if they can be found - is a priority. Here is more information from Costa Cruises http://www.costacruise.com/B2C/USA/AreaNews/WreckRemoval/costa-concordia-removal.htm

Re: Costa Concordia
Agree Gala. They have completed a excellent engineering project. Such a pity that the ship has to stay there until Spring next year, as still so much more to complete, before it can be towed away.
Re: Costa Concordia
I am DELIGHTED..................partially because the world (the media) would have been so very quick to jump on any problems that might have occurred.
Bravi a tutti !

Re: Costa Concordia
perhaps im jaded, but although i agree the parbuckling is an excellent project, the flag waving has really annoyed me. I dont believe the residents of Giglio will be so relieved to see it go. They have had giornalists, 500 workers, and brueacrats staying in their hotels and eating in the restaurants for 18 months. The best tourist season ever according to some of them - so I suspect they will be sorry to see it go. 500 million to right a ship seems alot of money. Someone is making a fortune out of this, and its not about 2 bodies, environmental concerns, or tourism. Its about money and saving Costa's skin. Strings have been pulled and Monti bent over backwards to not embarass Italy further.

I thought that was from the series "Nikita"Gala Placidia wrote:Well, the French summed it up: "cherchez la femme"...
Seriously though, I do hope they find the last person so that the families have closure on this accident.
Re: Costa Concordia
What I meant was that the Captain's lover was finally going to get all the blame... that's the meaning of the vey chauvinistic expression. They will certainly argue that she "distracted" him...
As for the poor lady, it will be very difficult to find her at this stage. They managed to locate the remains of the Indian steward very quickly, but the other victim was not to be found in that area and it was there where she was seen for the last time.
