Italians go back to basics according to the Beeb

Following on from Geo's great link to the economy here in Italy yesterday. This is yet another from the BBC News Beeb Link

The same story has been happening in Portugal, Spain and Greece. Finally, Italy is realising that they have to start cutting costs. I would disagree with the opinion that food costs have been escalating. I found that this year, the cost of food has seen some reductions. It is another sign of the times. What also worries me is that children may be getting less nutritional food and too many carbohydrates.

It also depends where you shop Gala. The main supermarkets i.e. Conad, Esselunga, LeClerc & Carrefour etc, seem to have maintained their prices but the smaller Dico, EuroSpins etc seem to have cut prices and judging by the queues at the checkouts have become more popular. We now shop regularly at Eurospin & Dico as quality is now excellent and prices unbeatable. Thankfully we do not have a Liddl near.

Interesting, Flip. Where are the nearest Eurospin and Dico to Bagni? I have not seen them. Leclerc has maintained their last year prices, on the other hand, I have seen reductions at both Esselunga and Conad. I do not go to Carrefour and, as you said, Lidl is too far away. I love to investigate and compare prices.

Eurospin is at the far end of Fornaci di Barga's main street (on the left you can't miss it), and Dico is just off to the right on the main road at Piano di Coreglia-ghivizzano, before the petrol station. Some great bargains to be had at both.

Thanks again, Flip. We went this morning to check on Eurospin. As you said, good prices, about 20-30% less than other large supermarkets, although the choice of brands, etc, is limited, although this may not be a problem...Did not have time to check on Dico, but we identified the place where it is located. We shall go there another time. As you said, quite a few people doing their shopping there.

Final report. Dico is also very good. As with Eurospin, both stock and variety are limited, but some interesting products to be found. A special "thank you" from "Tequila", as we found a great "cuccia" for her at only 2.99€!!! It was exactly what she wanted and I paid  35 € recently por something  that was not half as good.
