Electricity Costs Empty Electricity Costs

Post by Panner Wed Feb 03, 2016 4:57 pm

I have done comparisons in the past of the D1 (heat pump) and D3 tariffs available and a query today prompted me to have a look at the current rates, which have only recently gone on the ENEL site.

There are some very interesting changes if the current figures are to be believed.

Based on the ENEL tariffs online (which only gives components A and B) the following are the effective rates for consumption (daytime rates). Night and weekend rates are fractionally less (under 1 cent per kWh lower):

D1        (the special rate for those with heat pumps)                   18.8 cents per kWh

D2        (resident on the 3 kWh supply)                       from 13.5 cents per kWh (up to 150 kWh per month) to 27.3 cents per kWh (over 220 kWh per month)

D3        (non-residents and residents over 3 kWh supply) from 20.2 cents per kWh up to 150 kWh per month and 22.0 cents per kWh above that

There appears to have been a large reduction in the surcharges above 220 kWh per month on the D3 rate. The effective top rate up to 31 December 2015 was 31.7 cents per kWh (the comparative for the D1 rate was 19.1 cents per kWh).

In addition to the above rates per hour there was a component C which applied to the D1 and D3 tariffs (and probably the D2 tariff but I have not seen one of those bills) of approximately 2.5 cents per kWh. I couldn’t find anything on the ENEL site about it, but I have had the same problem previously and it certainly appears on the bills as an additional component.

The new rates also show that the standing charges are actually cheaper on the D1 tariff, although not a lot, in my case the difference would be about 5 euros per month.

It makes no difference whether you have a single phase supply or a three phase supply to either the standing charges or the variable charges.

If ENEL have not made a mistake on their published tariffs then it is very good news for non-residents and residents with a supply in excess of 3 kW as the reduction at the marginal rate is almost 10 cents per kWh.
