Tarragon herb, is it used much in Italy? Empty Tarragon herb, is it used much in Italy?

Not a herb we used much until recently and we are now almost addicted to the stuff. Is it a  herb used much in Italy? Google gives a translation of dragoncello and/or estragone. It also gives tarragon, so does anyone know which is best?   Smile  Smile  Smile

I just looked it up for you in my Italian dictionary and it says "dragoncello".  I have not seen it used much in Italy but when we were in Portugal many years ago, we noticed that they used a lot of it.  I agree it is delicious.  We love it in mustard or if you make your own mayonnaise, you can add it as well.

Never seen or heard of it here, but Italians are funny with herbs and what is common in the UK you have a real hard job finding here if it isn't Sage, Rosemary, Basil, Tyme or Parsley.

Meant to add, it's has a very sprawling habit....gets very leggy and flops back down on the ground when it reaches 2' so needs to be cut back regulary.....not a problem if you are a tarragon lover......

Thanks for that Angela, so I guess it's a bit like our sage and rosemary, which we are forever having to check. Did you bring your tarragon from the UK or buy it here? They say it retains most of its flavour when dried and we certainly found that the dry bought in the UK was very good...  Smile  Smile

Steve, It's stems are not as strong and woody as rosemary or sage and they grow a metre tall so naturally flop.....  Tarragon was in the garden when we bought the house but we did buy from another English couple....so maybe it come from UK.....?  I also flavour olive oil with it....a great herb.....Good luck with your search.....

Interesting. We were going through the dried herb pots in the house recently, as we wanted to order some top-ups of the ones not visibly available here, e.g herbes de provence. Amazon do a good range of dried ones, just delivered yesterday, so stocked up on all sorts.
One jar we bought here, was dragoncello, so tarraggon. Came from Eurospin if I remember correctly.
