Time table LINK Ok, it says "improved", but does not tell you the half of it! Turned upside down would be a better way of putting it. They also don't bother to ensure you know about this before you travel. Now I checked their site twice before we travelled and did NOT spot the above link which was hidden away amongst all the other cr@p advertising rubbish they have... To put it bluntly, it's a disgrace (some would say it always has been) and how people with small kids or disabled people are coping with it I don't know. It would not be half so bad if they had made more attempt to let people know they are doing major work on the place! So you  have been warned if you are using the place in the next year or so! It's half the size at the moment and more than a tad difficult to get around - give yourself a little more time... Oh and have a wee after security as the only loos are there... These at least are new and much larger than before, but it's a long way if you happen to be up the top end of air-side. Which you are likely to be if eating... Wetherspoons is still there, but was packed full (guess due to most others being closed). The "Bridge" bar is now air-side, not that it's moved, they have just moved the wall (temp) to make it so... A little harder to get to, but it was not anywhere near as busy... (and is still not as dear as Wetherspoons (Windmill).

Thanks for the warning.  My daughter is travelling out to us this year with a young baby.  I have already tried to encourage her to avoid Stansted due to the difficulty of getting there - this will confirm it.  Al Italia is starting to look more and more appealing.

We have just travelled through Gatwick and didn't find that particularly hospitable either!  Think we are just getting old - prefer the long journey by car - at least we are more in control.

Very much my view Flying pigs............many years ago we flew weekly on business and it was a way of life..............in the last few years we find it such a faff !

At least in the car you can generally chill and relax (except for (us) the Bologna tangenziale and through Basle .. Shocked  )

I didn't know this but we did something we don't usually do on our last trip to the UK - we booked the lounge and fast track security control. Fast track was honestly the best £4 each I have ever spent. We went straight through. Whilst sitting in the lounge (a luxury I booked as I was travelling on my own with my 3 year-old and didn't want to be dealing with the stress of trying to stop her from looking in all the shops) we saw all the harassed, stressed looking passengers arriving - who had taken over an hour to get through security - and running for the gate. No thanks!

I will now pay the £4 every time. Personally for us with a little one the lounge was worth it too and you get breakfast/lunch/dinner included plus newspapers etc. We probably would have spent yhat much at the airport anyway and it was a much more relaxing experience.

Agreed V.  A leisurely drive every time.  Smile

We avoid Basal by crossing the Rhine east of Mulhouse (A36), down the A5 autobahn, then pick up the A98 via Lorrach to cross the border at Rheinfelden.  The Swiss A2 south is then literally less than a mile away.  No traffic problems and stress free!!

For those who park at the airport, if you use their valet parking service you get fast-track thrown in.  Bit of a surprise last time to be whisked straight through!

The lounge does look like a good bet - it says you get fast track security thrown in which makes it even better.  Have thought in the past about signing up for one of the lounge membership thingeys but was put off by the Stansted lounge not opening early enough, but I now see that it opens at 4am.

I wish  we had know this before we arrived there... Not that it was a great problem, and security was very quick, however there does not seem to be more gates at present, but we could see there soon will be... It was the little things like the loos being miles away and having to find the security gates, which I would imagine for the disabled or people with young kids, could be a major headache, hence the post...   Shocked  Shocked
