Insulation Empty Insulation

Post by La Dolcevita Wed May 29, 2013 6:26 pm

OK - another topic I know nothing about. Any thoughts/suggestions/experience of how best to insulate our house. It's currently a 2 story traditional stone house and we're going up to create another level. We want it as well insulated as possible without it costing an arm and a leg! Any suggestions/advice gratefully appreciated

Insulation Empty Re: Insulation

The cheapest solution would be an 8cm EPS lined with plasterboard (32 to 38euro/sqm. Be careful of thermal bridging.

The best solution would be an external insulation jacket perhaps finished with pigmented plaster. This would cost about 70euro/sqm including scaffolding. Window cills and thresholds would need to be extended or replaced to cover the additonal thickness.

The jacket solution will tend to keep the house cool in the Summer.
