Yes, it must be true.as Italy has always been ahead of most nations as far as style is concerned. And that has been the case since Ancient Roman times. We would nowadays call them "trendsetters". Just a tiny example concerning the Renaissance, it was Marie of Medici, queen of France through marriage, who introduced the use of the fork to the European tables. Before that it was all "peasant" spoons and knives, even at the most aristocratic tables... Now, that is sophistication!

"Forchetta". "fourchette", "tenedor"... quite useful
Spoons are great for soup and knives good to cut or slice... or as a weapon
