Japanese Anenomes

What do people think the likelihood is of Japanese Anenomes surviving in the climate of the Sabina (hills to the North of Rome)? I am dying to plant up some perennials which will colonise some corners to give some late Summer and Autumn colour. Thanks!

My advice would be to plant them and see what happens!

What plants decide to do in Italy is a mystery to me.  We planted oleander here (300m above sea level) a few years ago but, despite oodles of TLC, not one plant survived.   
Yet further up the hill behind us is a house with the largest, healthiest oleander bushes you could ever hope to see.

Ah but "G" did you plant them near on half a meter down surrounded in compost. Our Italian friend brought us 10-15 of these 3-4' tall on top of his panda... Insisted we plant them either sie of our drive and per his specification as above.... It cost us a lot of time helping him dig the holes and even more in buying compost!!! However, despite his misgivings about them flowering (planted in March) they have all flowered and are looking very healthy. Did you know how toxic these plants are..?

I think you have been watching this great lady... Carol I'm sure we had these in our garden in our old house (very North England) and they were (I thought they were) like weeds... However they did not spread too much and were superb in bloom at the end of the year with so much height. Go for it and plant a few in different aspects (if you can).
