WARNING! POSTEPAY FALSE EMAILS Empty WARNING! POSTEPAY FALSE EMAILS

Post by Gala Placidia Fri Jul 26, 2013 2:27 pm

For the second time this week, we have received a message  apparently from Postepay (Italian Post Office Bank) stating that there were some problems "with our account"" and asking us to contact them through a link provided in the message. We do not have a bank account with them and the message did not contain our names. It is obviously fraud and I am just warning everyone, even if you are a client of the bank.

We have been getting these for years in the UK for every bank under the sun! It amazes me that these people must make money out of this kind of junk. People need to be aware that things on the net (via any device, including phones) are only going to get worse regards to security. affraid affraid affraid

My late father, when he was in his 80s, for one. Sad Sad

I got an email recently from my younger sister telling me she'd been mugged in Italy and asking me to send €1500 as the hotel owner wouldn't let her leave until she'd paid the bill.  Initially I believed it as the email address was definitely hers but when I was asked to send the money to some random address in Naples by Western Union I smelt a rat.  So I rang her number in England and there she was - safe and sound. Smile

Apparently, I now know, this is a not uncommon scam.
