Internet UK

I know apologies, wrong country, and wrong forum    but since most of you have one leg in the UK and the other here, not to mention expert knowledge, I can’t miss this opportunity to pick your brains  
 
We’re returning to the UK at the end of the year and we don’t want a landline, only internet. I’ve done a Google search but every provider seems to offer a package, which includes a telephone line. I don´t really want to go down the dongle route. All help, suggestions, ideas will be greatly appreciated

Dongle didn't dongle very well in Italy so reluctant...

Have a look at Three, not done so ourselves, but we do use them in the UK... So, they are saying they do packages in certain countries (including Italy) with no roaming charges. If this includes data AND you have coverage in both countries, it could be a very good deal... However we have found that mobile internet is now dearer in the UK than Italy (was not when we first arrived) and where as the quality has went up in Italy, in the UK it is the same if not a little worse... An unlocked mifi dongle (or device , wireless router whatever) is very good if you travel often as you can take it with you and have internet on the go.... If you want to watch catch-up TV and the likes, then that's a different story... Then it will cost to not have a land line....

Three are good, my friend has a three contract and uses his phone to access internet on his computer.

It's a good option.   

Most smartphones now have a 'Personal Hotspot' option.  So you select this, connect to your laptop/tablet and......you're on the internet!!

I am afraid that you will either get a landline and a home broadband, or you will have to get a dongle and a mobile broadband.

...Unless of course you decide to buy an ipad (or any other tablet), with 3G, and get a 3G connection.

The company 3 is quite good at providing unlimited data on its contracts, although other companies have good contracts too.
