Sereno Variable on Rai2 at 5,10 pm yesterday (Saturday) featured Abruzzo, especially L'Aquila provence.  It showed the area to be very beautiful with lots of interesting things to do and many artisan workshops to visit.  It's on my list of places to go to soon......

I've a massive list of places to visit, but somehow think it will take more than a little time to do any. L'Aquila is not too far from us and we have past very close by a couple of times. Very sadly, both before and after the earthquake there and the damage from the motorway view was bad enough. A number of people have said that visitors are what is needed, so I guess (and have heard) that it is still struggling a lot. Looking at the new airport you wonder if they will ever get back to normal there, no planes whatsoever, did they really need an airport, especially when you hear so much about Pescara and Ancona struggling?

Steve, As you say a new airport ?  If that's where money is being spent rather than on the buildings etc there is little hope.  I confess for over 5 years I did fly to the UK via Ryanair from Ancona, 20 times a year there and back, the plane was always full but the smaller planes I did see coming in and going out only half full....
