Moving to Italy - How to Empty Moving to Italy - How to

I've seen information on this on various sites, so thought we should have something on here as well! So if anyone can remember what worked and what didn't or what they might have done different, it may well help others. I'm sure it is another that is almost different for everyone, but likely that's what makes it interesting and one which can hopefully cover a lot of circumstances. For us the main thing was that we had a UK house still at the time we bought, were retired, so no kids and only a few family in the UK. We looked at moving furniture out to Italy well in advance of buying and had quotes from several companies, at that time all were expensive in our view. Not being sure if we would buy and sell in the UK, we also looked at temporary and long term storage, which could allow us to move as and when we wanted, both in the UK and Italy. Biggest problem I can see in retrospect was that we did not know what was available in Italy or the cost. It would have been good if we had thought about the likes of Ikea having a presence in Italy, had only ever been once in the UK, but it would have least provided with a cost comparison Ikea Italy LINK . Better still would have been to also have this Mondo Convenienza LINK . I'm sure no matter how much information we put here there is no way you can get everything right, but it maybe of help.

I must admit, that we put all our furniture in storage. We had sold our cottage in the UK, but with the normal Italian work rate, the October finish date was June the next year!!!
I must compliment the removal company that we used, as they even kept the shrubs that we wanted to bring watered in their storage depot. All arrived in good condition.
The only items we really bought from Ikea were lighting, never realised we had virtually 3Kwh if all were switched on!!!
