Italian tax allowance
Not that it's relevant to us at the moment, but it may be for peace of mind. Does anyone know how the Italian tax allowance work? I'm sure I've read it's not very much, but then someone said it worked differently to the UK in as much as it is an amount deducted from any tax calculated? If it was then it could actually be quite a high allowance.

Re: Italian tax allowance
The Dark Art of Italian Tax allowances are best performed by a Commercialista skilled in manoeuvring through the minefield of what is legal and what is not.

Re: Italian tax allowance
Unless you are employed there isn't really a tax-free threshold at all. There are various items you can allow against your tax bill including an allowance for dependent children and family members. Don't get excited - it isn't much!
There is lots of information here in English.

Re: Italian tax allowance
Thanks for that Admin. I must admit to being a little lazy as I knew I had come across the site you provided the link for and should have looked a it before posting, just thought someone might know the answer. Looking at this PAGE from your link it has the allowances I'd seen before. What I did not realise is that it also has details of how your tax is calculated. As I see it this seems to confirm that they calculate your tax and then take off your allowance. That being the case I don't think the allowance is as low as it seems (although granted still not high)

But IRPEF is only one of the many income taxes you have to pay and can pale into insignifigance against INPS. I suppose that is why it seems so low becuase as a proportion of what we have to pay, it is.

Re: Italian tax allowance
At a starting rate of 23% for personal tax, then INPS (national insurance) must indeed be high!Admin wrote:But IRPEF is only one of the many income taxes you have to pay and can pale into insignifigance against INPS. Re: Italian tax allowance
About 26% starting rate or minimum of around €3,300 per year depending on your type of employment.

It's little wonder people avoid paying tax, they need the money to pay their National Insurance!

Re: Italian tax allowance
Well, when you first start paying it you sometimes have to pay two years at once the following year. That what my OH is doing at the moment which plus mine for this year is 1900 every 2 months until January!
