Who Owes What?

I see the wily Greeks have decided that Germany actually owes them €279bn! 
This is for war reparations in the 1940s for atrocities, looting etc etc. If paid this could certainly help their debt repayment problems. 
Perhaps, if things get even worse, Italy could try a similar initiative?
Which reminds me of the story when Angela Merkel arrived at Athens Airport and went through Greek Immigration Control (GIC).
GIC: Name?
AM: Angela Merkel
GIC: Occupation?
AM: No, I'm only here for a holiday!
