Watergate (again!) Empty Watergate (again!)

There's a village adjacent to Casa Ghiro where a handful of Italians live.  The remainder of the houses are all owned by people from a certain Northern European country which are used as holiday homes.  Some of the NE people have had houses there for 40+ years.

Anyhow a few days ago one of the NE people was topping up his swimming pool from the communal tap.  A short time later the heavies from GAIA appeared, read the riot act and plastered notices about the use of communal taps around the village.

A couple of days later a NE woman was spotted filling a watering can from another communal tap to water her flower pots.  She received a visit from the police! Sad

Now I'm sure there's an Italian statute that says communal taps can only be used for drinking water/washing etc.  Even so I would have thought the best way of dealing with it would be a face to face discussion.  But no!  A denunciation was made (twice) and, as a result, international relations in the village are (to put it mildly) tense.

Surprised they were not shot on the spot Exclamation  using the communal tap in such a way... Shocked

I agree with you Steve. Whilst a face to face discussion would have been nice ghiro, what on earth were they doing....?  Topping up their own pool is disgraceful, a watering can another matter but still not acceptable....why not use their own water supply....oh yes, silly me, they have to pay for that !

Totally agree with Steve and Angie. These people would not dare doing that in their own country. Why should they break the law in Italy? And yes, there are plenty of rules and regulations that apply to the use of public water. I would have them fined, particularly the guy who dared topping up his swimming pool.

A similar situation arose in our village, some numpty wanting to top up his pool from the communal water fountain. Apparently though you can get a licence from GAIA to do it.

Purely out of curiosity, do you know the cost of such a licence Question
