Cheaper electricity?

Post by ghiro on Tue Jun 09, 2015 8:45 pm

In the UK we have Economy 7 which provides cheaper electricity usually from midnight to 7:00am.  But you need an additional meter,

Is there something similar here in Italy?  Is electricity cheaper at night?  If so, do you need a different meter?

Confused (nothing new!). Sad

You can plump for a biorario contract which gives you cheaper leccy at night and weekends - same meter - google ENEL biorario

Our electric is cheaper between 19:00 until 08:00 week days and all w/e and bank holidays. As far as I know it is just a normal rate apart from being resident.

cheap electricity.....

... the regular Enel contract already gives you a reduced rate for nights weekends and holidays.  Don't get too excited though because although the headline rate looks greatly reduced by the time you add in all the other charges it works out to be just 12% cheaper.... but every little helps.   The best way to really cheap electricity is to fit a small heat pump and then claim the D3 rate for EVERYTHING which is about 27% cheaper. ... I expect Badger can help if that idea appeals to you.
The only other no-brainer solutions are to fit LED bulbs everywhere.. even chucking away old but working bulbs is sensible.... remember each single Watt for 7hrs a day costs you about a € .. so eg a 100W outside light costs €100 to run for a year.  ... and finally ... pool pumping .. normally about €150 a month and can be reduced by about 70% (€100 a month) by changing to a pump with an electronically commutated permanent magnet motor... just search 'Pentair intelliflow' on Youtube and listen to the man in the blue shirt.

Look at your bill Ghiro. If you have readings for F1/F2/F3, then you have the lower rate for overnight usage. F1 is the peak rate, so it will also give you a % of what you use during a normal day.
