goldengas
Has anyone else recently received a letter from goldengas telling them they must buy a minimum of 400 euros of gas a year and if you don't there will be a 100 euro charge for maintenance. I think that's right.... We use very little gas mainly for showering / cooking and probably only 100 euros worth a year. Maybe we need to switch to another company, can anyone recommend one,we live in Marche ? Many thx.

Re: goldengas
If you are using such a small amount, then I would suggest using a couple of 47Kg gas bombolas. We have 2 here basically for cooking, 1 is always switched off, until the other runs out.

We did exactly the same as Geo a couple of years back as we had the same usage i.e. cooking only. Reckon it is costing us around 2 47kg per year, but we do spend 15-20 weeks in the UK in a year. We had the bomba taken out, but the pipe that went to it we had converted to a water stand pipe, which has been very useful. It was quite simple to have the rest of the pipe diverted to a lower storage area, not allowed here officially apparently, but when we pointed out to our friendly plumber guy it faces North, he nodded and put it in... Works well with the extra bottle, but wished we could have explained properly to the guy that we wanted a dual valve that indicated when one was empty and automatically switched over to the other.... Can't recall the cost (inc the double valve), but it was not a lot....

Re: goldengas
Forgot to add we got the work prepared whilst running down the bomba, so all the pipes were in place and only when it was emptied did we swap over. Then we had the company come take it away once the little bottles were up and running ok

Forgive me for asking but did 'the company' take the bombolone away for no charge and with a jaunty smile on their face?

Not too sure about the smile, but do recall the guy was quite pleasant and there was no quibble and no charge

Re: goldengas
Only in Italy...Such a silly system. Surely, when your house is being built/renovated, the builder could purchase a standard tank to allow you to order your gas from anyone without having to have your garden dug up when you change supplier...Vicino, I presume goldengas claimed their tank and new people plopped theirs in the hole ? I'm liking te sound of 47kg bottles more and more...but the house is on the market and somehow if I was a potential buyer I would prefer the large tank incase I wanted to run the c/h....we never do as soooo costly.

Re: goldengas
The rovider of the tank is legally responsible for the safety of your tank and system. so thats why they take it with them. Not only how and where it is placed, but also fire extinguishers etc etc - Obviously no one provider wants to take on another's bombolone becasue if they're faulty it becomes their problem and so on in an endless loop of blame and fault...
Re: goldengas
Angie, if the house is for sale, I would not do any changes at this stage.

Re: goldengas
Fire extinguishers, that's funny modi...was told they would provide some years ago but never did.....Only 2 maintenance checks in 10 years plus......If they are asking for 100 euros a year I would expect annual visits....Do people on town gas have a minumum amount they have to pay for their gas useage every year ? Some of us are on a budget and there is no way I would use 400 euros worth every year.....

Re: goldengas
Gala, I am thinking of ordering the 400 euros worth and sticking with the bombolone for the next year....purely and simply because the house is up for sale and you never know, one day we may even get a buyer who would prefer the large gas tank than bottled.

Re: goldengas
We are on town gas and we only pay for what we use. On the other hand, we had to pay to have it installed. But it was worth every penny!!!!

Re: goldengas
Oh I forgot you were looking to move. I agree it's not worth changing over as it may well be people looking to buy see it as a normal feature and one you can hang a gas boiler off (many still do so...). If you do have to buy more gas, then I would look to negotiate what amount you want by telling them you are looking to move. If you do have to buy €400, it will at least be a small selling point to tell prospective buyers that there is a full tank included. We inherited 30% when we bought and it took us over 2 years to use it all, which convinced us we did not want to refill the tank as we were using so little.

Re: goldengas
Looking to move into, or closer to a town Steve. Have re-read the letter from goldengas and it is 400ltrs of gas not euros so will ask what their going rate is and negotiate from there....I have been told the price fluctuates quite alot depending on who you are and where you live......thx anyway for the advice, always appreciated.

Angela,
It was VERY easy to change supplier some months ago, zero problems with the new supplier or the old one taking away the old tank, so you have options...

All relative Angela, we use cooker top only, part of the year (say 40 weeks) on small gas bottles, it costs us circa €70...

1,250 litres at €0.819/litre + IVA at 22% = €1248.98
We actually have mains gas in the garden. The gas boiler at Casa Ghiro was fitted in early May 2008. Our geometra rang the gas company. 'Can you please come and connect your gas to the house?'
'Of course' they said 'we'll be round in either January or February next year'.
'But you don't understand' said our geometra 'they're moving in in 2 weeks'.
No. It's you who don't understand' they replied 'we'll be round in January or February next year'.
Which is why we have LPG in a bombalone!
