8 September 1943 - 27 April 1945

Today we went with friends to an exhibition at the Castello in Malgrate about the last 20 months of WW11 in Massa Carrara.  The partisans, the reprisals, the destruction and ultimately the liberation.  Very moving.

But what I found particularly interesting is that the exhibition clearly identified the enemy then as the Germans (Tedeschi).  Whereas recently I've noticed in the UK that in WW11, according to the media, we fought the 'Nazis' - but never 'The Germans'.

Interesting Ghiro, maybe because Italy previously had been Governed by 'Fascists' and did not see the significance of Nazism, also it is only of late, when the UK wishes to be seen as PC, that a differentiation between 'Germans' and Nazis occurred. My parents always referred to ''fighting the Germans'' never the Nazis.

I agree with Flip. it is in recent years that the difference between being a Germanophile and a Nazi sympathizer has been made clear.
