New farming law? Empty New farming law?

I thought I'd share a campaign I discovered today. It is a campaign to have the figure of small farmer (contadino) recognised in law and given new incentives and be exempted from the ridiculous array of laws we have to follow that were designed for large industrial farms. In a very brief summary it would mean that you could convert your own produce in your domestic kitchen (finally!) and have people offer their labour on a voluntary basis without falling foul of the employment laws and the best of all, earn up to €25,000 a year free of taxes. Now that would be a real revolution in farming. It might actually tempt people back to the land as so many have been driven away by the onerous taxes and over bureaucratic laws.

They have actually just presented their new law to the Camera dei Deputati (parliament). Let's keep our fingers crossed!

It seems to be an excellent proposal, which will help not only small farmers and family mini businesses, but should also benefit farming and the land. It is impossible to apply the same laws to medium to large farms and to the individual farmer. Just plain common sense.
This could also create new opportunities for people who are unemployed, but who own small parcels of agricultural land.

Absolutely Gala. I believe the French already have a similar law. Let's keep our fingers crossed that the Deputati do something sensible for a change!

I do hope that the Deputati have also read this http://m.vatican.va/content/francescomobile/en/speeches/2015/january/documents/papa-francesco_20150131_coldiretti.html

That would be great for small rural communities as there are many people who are not able to get work, so starting a small business using their Ortos and being able to sell produce at locla markets would be a boon. Hope it gets approval, God knows the Government does sod all for Rural folk.

Hooray.  At last some common-sense being discussed in higher places.  About time !  Rural communities will benefit and opportunities for all, young and old to earn an honest living.

And the general public will also benefit by being able to purchase fresh produce from genuine farmers and markets, without having to go through the current distribution channels. I think that authentic farmers' markets once or twice weekly will benefit not only small farmers, but consumers as well.
