House insurance
Do you have a favoured holiday house insurer? Some only cover lets up to 6 weeks which is a bit limiting ... first quote at nearly £700 seems a bit steep. Any help would be very welcome - thanks.
Re: House insurance
We have our house done with theses lot Intasure who specialise in Homes abroad, seem to be quite competitive and responsive , although we have never made a claim with them so not sure what that would be like, but a freind of ours had a claim with them a couple of years back and seemed to have it resolved amicably. Also they are English so no problem with coms.

Re: House insurance
As with Flip, we also use Intasure. They seem to be quite good. Have never had to claim.
Re: House insurance
This may be of interest to those who don't live permanently in Italy like us.
We spend six months of the year in Italy only returning to our family home in the UK for 'flying visits' in that time. Our UK home is insured with Intasure as they have no maximum length of time the house can be left empty (or at least an extended time). Considering this their quote was very competitive as all other insurers insisted that someone visit the property at least every 30 days and although this usually happens, we didn't want to have to worry that no-one was available to go in and our insurance invalidated.
They also operate out of the offices where I first started my working life over 40years ago!

Re: House insurance
It is covered with the Intasure policy.
Click on the summary of cover in the link below.

House Insurance with Earthquake cover
We use Andrew Copeland International Ltd and pay just over £500 per year, with an earthquake excess of £5K. We also leave the house closed up for six months of the year.
We buy the policy through a broker - David Roberts and Partners of Southport. 01704 508420.
For those of you who are interested - this broker also found car insurance for our UK car to be in Italy for six months of the year - the policy is with National Farmers Union !

House insurance
Thank you all for the useful pointers .. Intasure it is then. Out of interest we had a chat once with an insurer and they said claims for earthquakes were very rare but subsidence was the big one. Seems that we add so much weight to the houses by making them earthquake proof!
Re: House insurance
Check your policy as I'm not sure if Subsidence/Landslip is covered with all policies, but Earthquake as Geo said is nearly always covered via UK based policies.

Re: House insurance
We also insure our cars through the NFU. Since the UK is (currently) a member of the EU the insurance is equally valid for the whole year whether you're in Italy, the UK or somewhere else in Europe.clombardelli wrote:For those of you who are interested - this broker also found car insurance for our UK car to be in Italy for six months of the year - the policy is with National Farmers Union !
Thank you all for the 'earthquake' insurance information. I'll give it a go! Subsidence/landslip are not a potential problem at Casa Ghiro.

Re: House insurance
Have a look at Schofields. Last time their policy was more inclusive with less onerous requirements.

Re: House insurance
Our previous insurer, Axa Italy, didn't cover this. Incidentally we eventually discovered they only covered 'contents' for fire and explosion - but not for theft!ghiro wrote:Has anyone managed to get Earthquake cover?
For us this is important as we live in an area where significant earthquakes are not unknown. The last really bad one was in 1920 but we've personally experienced 2 not very strong ones since 2008.
Anyhow we have now taken out a policy with Intasure which covers us for earthquake damage but with an excess of £5000, which doesn't seem unreasonable. They've been very helpful and easy to deal with. As a result I'm happy!

Re: House insurance
Anyone found any good house insurance deals since we last talked about it?
I have been wondering what kind of price an Italian insurance would be?

Re: House insurance
Have still found Intasure to be the best so far. Earthquake damage repaired quickly as soon a builders were available. Temporary house delivered which they did not want back, heat pump replaced. So 5k excess was worth it, as think they paid out 100k minimum. Ok, policy went up to 1k, but that I have no problem with.
Re: House insurance
The problem with insurance is you never can tell until it is required. Fingers crossed we do not need to know your (very sad/and then good) experience is good to hear.
