Butterflies
We seem to have a mass of 'Little and Large White butterflies' in the garden just now and few of anything else. We are not growing any brassica crops so I was wondering why this is....Can anyone advise ?

It's only the caterpillars that feed on brassica (hence it's name Pieris brassicae) the large white as other butterflies feed on nectar so with all this wet and sunny weather we've been having there is a lot of wild flowers out everywhere which is good for butterflies so it brings them out.

Yes Flip, I know, but why are there other varieties of butterflies in the garden....seems like the whites have invaded and nothing else is daring to venture in.....

Probably because the Small white is the commonest butterfly followed by the Large White therefore the two most prolific species, simples......
