Would it be possible to merge into this post the original thread under "Suggestions"?

ANTS
Ok here goes,
To get rid of Ants, mix 50:50 washing up liquid and water, put it into a spray bottle and spray the ants and there trail.
This should kill them.

chain saw - laying down
Users of veggie based chain lubricant beware. If you lay down your saw for a few months - particularly over winter - then the oil can solidify enough to strip the pump gear teeth on the first start up. So on the last use before laying down either run some diesel through the oil tank or preferably do the last run with engine oil. This tip from the man who repaired my saw after last winter.

Re: Top Tips of the week
We have used CurrencyFair for over two years now to transfer money on an as and when basis. Today in the independent there is an article on them and Azimo (never used these). My tip of the week is to check out currency fair if you often move money over. Article . Anyone interested and need a quick low down on it, let me know... As an extra tip, anyone using them place your order in chunks and the best rate often occurs over night....

Mozzie Bites
I usually suggest using Tiger Balm for these, but have found another much cheaper method.
Just put some wine vinegar on a cotton wool pad and dab the area, where the bite is appearing. Very shortly after, it stops itching and the bite starts to reduce. Had about 6 bites this afternoon and they have all reduced and no itches!!!
May not work for everyone and you may smell like a chip for a while, but a low cost solution.

buy wood NOW
Some folk think it's a good idea to leave wood buying to the last minute as the summer drying will make it effectively cheaper. It doesn't work like that though. Unsplit large logs in a close stack don't dry out enough for use next winter. Only when you buy the wood is it cut to size and split and at the same time goes up a conveyor into the truck for immediate delivery. When left unstacked, in the July and August sun, it will shed around 20% of its weight (so yes a fifth of what you bought was water) and be just about good for the winter. A small stash left over from previous winters is really useful for extending this drying period. Unless you are blessed with a heat pump you'll need at least 100 quintale to warm a typical stone farm house over the winter, but slightly wet wood burns less efficiently so crafty late buyers really need to buy even more.
Re: Top Tips of the week
We buy our wood around August time, but as we buy by volume (truck load) the water content is not a factor.

FUEL STRIKES LOOMING
Top Tip for the forthcoming week ahead.
For those of you currently resident in Italy FILL YOUR CARS WITH FUEL before the strikes start!
According to ANSA a strike will take place at many petrol stations from 22.00 hrs on 16 July to 06.00 hrs on 19 July.

Re: Top Tips of the week
must be time for another tip.
Entertainment - Films on Youtube.
Internet TV and radio is well on the way to relegating the old idea of programmed content to the bin. There are hundreds of free movies buried in the depths of Youtube but they take a while to unearth so this thread is for swapping ideas. I suggested 'Page Eight' on an earlier post and now having watched 'Shooting the past' I looked up Emelia Fox and found that a fan had put up a whole load of her films in pretty good quality. Then moving on to Bill Nighy I came across 'The girl in the cafe' - good stuff but in parts and some loss of sound. Just found BBC Radio 4 on the Apple TV - hooray.

Another TOP TIP for YouTube to allow you to easily download a video to your computer is simply put ss after the www. in the URL and press enter; this will take you to a Safe site that will enable you to save the video in different formats (MP4, FLS, 3GP etc).
e.g. http://www.ssyoutube.com/watch?v=IKJeW17i9UI[/size]

Not that I would know the legality of such things, but you could also try this which I'm sure is also safe... Well as safe as anyone can be these days online...

Excuse my ignorance but is there a 'transitional fossil' (aka a 'missing link') above? I feel I need to click on 'this' - but when I do nothing happens!

A compilation of a few online ordering sites from the UK, which deliver to Italy. Have excluded Amazon and Ebay, as they are pretty well known.

http://www.vet-medic.com/
For pet supplements and Human ones:
http://www.vetvits.co.uk/ http://www.healthspan.co.uk/
Normal medicines, cosmetics etc without a prescription:
http://www.chemistdirect.co.uk/
Blank DVDs, printer inks, and many more items: ( Postage @ £20 is a little high if you only order a few items, so I tend to order cases, printer paper, ink etc. Have used them for quite a number of years now )

Protecting your precious woodpile
I suspect, like many others, our precious supply of wood for the winter is stored outdoors on pallets and covered with a tarpaulin. Unfortunately, over the years, said tarpaulin has developed a number of holes - particularly on the top.
So we thought we'd buy another one today. But when we arrived at Brico we discovered sheets of weatherproof rubber corrugated roofing (100 x 80cm) at €6. [Naturally similar products are available.........blah, blah, blah]
So the woodpile, under the old tarpaulin, now has a roof held down with some very large stones. I'll let you know in due course how it survives the rain and high winds of the northern Italian winter (but I'm optimistic!).

How to find files on your PC - not for the faint hearted
Ok I'm sure lots of you must wonder how you will ever find all those pictures and other files ever again... Trouble is that our PCs are now ending up like our houses and cluttered to the point of uselessness ... Not for everyone this as it depends on your filing ability/sense...However I have found this useful... Easier if you know how to, and are used to using "windows explorer".... Here is a way to list your files for later reading in a document...
Find the folder you think the file resides (can be your "C" drive or external disk),
hold SHIFT & RIGHT CLICK,
click option to "open command window here"
in the new black cmd window type "tree /F >MyFileList.txt"
The above should create a text file in the same folder called "MyFileList.txt, which you can open with notepad, word , wordpad etc and do a simple "find" for the full or part name of your file. The results give you the location...

Thanks for the above tip. Can you do that with multiple files or will it break?

It does not work on "files", as it says "folders". So the obvious answer would be to try it, but no, it will open 2 separate cmd windows... Did you search troll?

Re: Top Tips of the week
If you travel from the UK to Italy using the channel tunnel (recommended at 35 mins for the crossing) you can pay using your Tesco Clubcard cash vouchers.
Each £5 voucher can be changed into £15 to pay for Eurotunnel: http://www.tesco.com/clubcard/deals/product.aspx?R=3223
I always do this - after all, every little helps!

Thanks for the reminder our daughter used her vouchers for us last year. We now have our own Tesco club card
