To my eternal regret I've never seen (from a distance I hasten to add) a volcano erupt. I wish I had 'cos, as Steve suggests, I bet it's spectacular.
However, as a grammatical pedant, I think the BBC ought to know that correctly it's '....but none of the villages on the slopes of the mountain has been forced to evacuate so far'
