Old car tax and insurance.

I have heard that when an Italian car reaches the grand old age of 20yrs it is entitled to a reduction in insurance premium and bollo.  Does anyone know if this is so and how do you go about claiming it ?  Many thx for any advice.

This is indeed true, even our doctor's old Fiat Panda is 21yrs old ! I can only assume that calling in at your nearest Autoscuola would be a good starting point. If not them, I'd try the nearest ACI office.

By the way, I highly recommend joining ACI !

Unless the car is of historic interest (and registered with ASI or one of the single marque registers) it has to be 30 years old to be exempt. If it is regarded as historic, it only needs to be 20 years old.
If a car is registered to a disabled person, it is exempt from the bollo.

Somehow I dont think my Seat Ibiza will be classed as 'Historic Interest' but it may make 30yrs, you never know !  Friends with a 20 plus yr old Fiat Panda do get reduced bollo / car insurance though which is strange.
