New Button?

What's this ''Merci'' button all about then?

We have the "Merci" button to fool the masses into believing we are French. I believe some members even want a Burgundy carpet installing.

well I've pressed it, so what has it done??

Well I've looked and looked but can't find a 'Merci' button anywhere

Also the Memberlist says Il Salmone has made one post and I can't find that either.

It's all very confusing

Think the merci button is only appearing in a few threads, so no idea why and what happens when you press it either ....... lol

I think Geo that the button appears on only on threads that you have posted but is visible only to you. Why and what is it's purpose, I think we need Admin to explain.

I am now only moderately, as against completely, confused!

How many of us have had to work our way through dozens of post all saying yeah / I agree / thanks / ditto / likewise, etc etc.

It's purpose (if it's working correctly) is to save bandwidth by signifying to the OP your thanks and/or agreement with their comments and should be displayed beneath the relevant post to which you are referring without necessarily posting a response directly.

It is however open to abuse, as some on this board who remember the 'Great ItalyMag Grazie Raid' know only too well!

So the question is this. Are we all together on this forum? Or is it 'them against us'?

If what you want is an inner clique of a handful of people, then fine. But don't be surprised when the membership, currently a stonking great 50, drifts away.

I would humbly suggest you need to think VERY carefully about what you want the future of 'The Italy Forum' to be, and act accordingly.

I think you might be getting a bit previous there Ghiro. The question was asked and answered, there's no suggestion of there ever being a them and us here. We all bring a little of our old baggage with us when we travel, but it's what we make of our new dwelling that counts. The likelihood of there being a repeat of the NEED for The Great Grazie Raid is so unlikely as to be incalculable, as the two main culprits that led to that particular event are no longer in the picture, especially not here AFAIK.

Ghiro, I'm not sure why you quoted my post and I'm also not sure what you mean by your "is it them against us" question either.

I was just answering Centauro about something that happened on another forum a long time ago - nothing sinister - it's just some of those here already "know each other" from other forums and have history, so we may refer back to those times occasionally. I didn't mean to keep you out of the loop, but you really did have to be there to understand - and obviously, you weren't.

So do we know what the Button is for (dragging the topic back on track), C'mon Penny shed the lumen.

I can only assume that it is meant to be a thank you button. The owners of Forumotion are French so maybe they haven't translated it yet

OK - it would seem only the Original Poster can see the Thank You button. I must admit that is odd BUT I have turned on ranking of posts so you can click on the + or the - to rank a post and you will see a bar turn green or red. They will count for or against your reputation.

Could be fun so let's see how we get on. I hope to see lots of + and - clicking.

Oh, and I've changed some of the buttons into English instead of French.

I now see under our avatar we have 'Points' and 'Reputation'.

Presumably one's 'Reputation' is determined by the number of + or - you get (as you said above).

Where do 'Points' come from?

You get one point for a + and one off for a - and 3 points for a Thank you

But I've amassed a creditable 50 points already Penny. Yet I have absolutely no reputation (well officially anyway!).
