broccoli - magic sore throat cure

I can't believe how I have gone through life without anyone mentioning this before a friend clued me up the other day.
If you have a sore throat just chew a raw floret of broccoli until it goes to nothing - the pain will have gone.
I tried this recently and it not only worked but the cold being flagged up did not happen.
My son was suffering today and a after 5 minutes chewing he was cured too.
Perhaps I'm the only person on the planet who didn't know this.

Do they have a different equivalent to April the 1st in Italy...   However I will give it a go next time I have a sore throat coming on. Oddly enough we have had very few colds since coming to Italy, but that could well be the fact we don't mix here with the large crowds we encounter in the UK.

I haven't tried that one for sore throats, but I will certainly give it a go. I know that broccoli is one of the top anti-cancer foods. 
For head and nose congestions, try to slice a raw onion and put it next to your bed. You will not need antihistamines. And there is scientific proof of its effectiveness Onion for colds and congestion

I so hope that is true.  Will definitely give it a try next time Im afflicted.

Seems like none of us knew about the curing ways of broccoli for sore throats....or the onion remedy. Going to try the later one tonight as in need of a decongestant....Watch this space.....

As an aside, we have grown broccoli both in Italy and the UK the last 2-3 years and found it lasts a lot longer than we thought. Grew both types, sprouting and normal and simply cut the heads off the latter and left the stalk in the ground (just lazy) and it kept on growing side shoots (more like sprouting) way past it would be normally finished. The sprouting broccoli was almost the same except we cut off almost all the shoots to eat late in the year and left the plants over winter, they sprouted again early next year. Have no idea if it was simply luck due to the weather, but think it worth another go with at least a couple of plants this year.

Keep on growing that sprouting broccoli, Steve. It contains more carotenoids, antioxidants and vitamins A and C than ordinary broccoli. A couple of florets (preferably raw) will cover half of your daily needs of these important elements.

Love broccoil.  But does this only work on a particular Saints day/full moon????

I find garlic very efficacious when I wake up with a sore neck and anaemia.
