Banca Marche Empty Banca Marche

Post by Angela Fuller Wed Jul 08, 2015 7:32 am

I read yesterday a headline 'Ancona Banca Marche'...the worst disaster in Italian banking since Sindona.....I have also seen many of the buildings of their branches up for sale.....I bank with them and am considering opening a Banco Posto account...for obvious reasons.  Has anyone experience of this and what documentation do I need to take to do so.  Any advice appreciated...

Just been to my local Banca Marche, noticed the clock on the wall has been pawned...well it's no longer there...Could this be a sign of things to come......

Looking at their site you can see there has been a problem with a load made to another bank, but they seem to be saying this has been resolved. I'm sure in any case, unless you have more than €100,000 in there, then your money would be safe.
Looking at the Poste site here you probably need to register yourself on the site before you can complete the forms to open an account, I'd be most surprised if you don't then have to print them off, sign them (several times) and then send them off to Rome. Their "BancoPosta Click" online account looks okay, but there are still small charges (but less than the counter post office, some zero) and it seems to have it's own site for some reason. Not too sure if you would have to register on there as well... From others we know you will need to find out what charges if any there will be for closing your account if you decide to do so. I would move most of the money out after I'd opened my new account. Then when I was happy all was working okay with the new account,  close the old account.

I have been reading a bit about the case and there has been plenty of irregularities, "creative accounting", bad auditing, dubious financing... Not a good thing. As Steve says, your first 100,000 should be covered by insurance; however, a bank going through this kind of trouble will be downsizing services, closing branches... I would take my money somewhere else...

Yes...............we have banked with these since we have had our place here. Regular stories of doom and gloom appear, with the Eurozone the way it is at present, we keep only a small amount here in the bank.

They have been in trouble for a few years and the press has been warning of a collapse. I would definitely move my account. You might be 'covered' but how long would it take to pay out??? For any kind of account you usually have to do the opening in person. We certainly did for a Banca Posta account for our associazione recently.

Easy to open a Banco Posta account at the office. I have had a current account with them for about 5 years, do my banking online, have direct debits for my utility bills and it costs €4/month. Easy!!
