This mainly applies to the Marche area, but hope is helpfull.

Indian/Pakistani: In Corridonia, near to Macerata. As you enter the town, there is a small parking area with a bus stop. If you can park there, then walk up the street opposite and there a couple of shops on the left hand side, which have all the spices and basmati rice that you will need, plus typhoo tea bags!!!

Chinese: On the Servigliano/Fermo road, there is a small roundabout, just before the Girasole/Oasi centre. About 100 mtrs before this roundabout is a left hand turn which has a sign for Coal supermarket. The shop is located virtualy next to Coal in a small precinct.

Thai: I always order mine from this company, who have a great selection. Delivery is by courier, normally within 24 hrs of the order. The owner speaks English, if you need to contact them.

Lidl Supermarkets have themed weeks, Thai, Indian, etc. and they do sell a limited number of spices and condiments. Not a great variety, though.

Hi Gala.

Yes they have a asian one on at the moment, not a great deal of choice though, unfortunately. I check on their website weekly to see what is going on.

Yes, I agree, it is fairly limited, but some products are good. I usually find quite a good selection of Asian foods in France. Vietnamese and Cambodian in particular.

We have an Asian supermarket in Lucca on Via Borgo Giannotti, which stocks quite a range of Spices/curries. Also often has fresh coriander and ginger.

Thank you, Flip. I did not know. I will go to inspect it. I do not cook much Asian food when we are in Italy, but it is good to know. I do love fresh ginger and coriander!

Especially for Geo....Apparently there is a new Asian supermarket that stocks the lot close to Lidls in Tolentino, Marche....anything they don't stock and you want they will source...They are, looking at the shopping centre, to the right and back a bit if you get my drift......

Thanks Angela. Will check it out next time I go to Tolentino. Went to the Chinese one near Oasi yesterday. Got some lovely large crab legs, spring rolls plus some other goodies.

Folks, is the asian place at ' la rancia' in Tolentino ? Next time we are there we shall call in. Also, I have never seen spring rolls at the Chinese shop near Oasi !! Are they in the freezer ?

Finally, one of the things that we LOVE is 'shao mai' those steamed pork dumplings ! Has anyone seen them around the same areas ?

Angie. You can get reasonable sized frozen crabs from the chinese shop, have bought them a few times. The crab legs are for Singapore chilli crab which we like, albeit a bit messy to eat.
Also got fresh bean sprouts yesterday which were lovely in a stir fry last night. Fresh bok choi to go with the beef tonight.

V, yes the spring rolls are kept in the freezer. Just had some for a light lunch today, with a sweet chilli sauce. They were the small version ( think about 40 to the box ).
With the dim sum, then I have seen them there, again in the freezer section.
Shumai (simplified Chinese: 烧卖; traditional Chinese: 燒賣; pinyin: shāomài).

If I have a list of things that I want, then I normally list them on a translator and take the English and simplified Chinese printout into the shop which helps. Yesterday I did not have a list with me, but the owner used a translator on his phone

I'll be down that way next week, I'll take my Chinese printout with me, never thought of that ! I assume as you had a light lunch, you didn't eat the whole box of 40 ! Shocked

Looks like November is going to a good/different food month, going all Asian/Chinese !

Thx Geo, have taken note..... Friend in UK started growing bean sprouts in  his garage years ago, started supplying health food shops and has made a mint....I do grow my own 'sprouts' but supplies often outstrip demand....there are only so many you can eat....but lovely and worth the effort.....even the doglet likes them....in a nice tasty sauce of course....

Very good prices, Geo. I am not that lucky, in Spain it is very difficult to find a good variety of Asian foods and whatever you find is expensive. The so called Asian food served at restaurants cannot compare with the real thing. Fortunately, we frequently go to San Francisco and there it is paradise for Asian food lovers.

Angie. Yes they are normally next day delivery. I ordered around Friday lunchtime, had confirmation was with the carrier later that afternoon. With the tracking, it was in Ascoli at 05.00 Sat am.

Gala, why not place a order next time you are here and take it back to Spain with you on your return.
