Well Cost

Hi, 

our property has a well and we are interested in using it for irrigation.
The well has not been used for over 10 years but we (the builder) checked it and the well is about 110 meters deep with over 30 meters of water level so it looks very promising.

We asked for a quote to get the well going again and we were shocked when the quote came in at 2500 Euros.
Now that includes everything except the drilling of the well (so submersible pump, the electrical installation and hookup, etc) but still, we didn't think the investment would be that high.

Can anyone share their view on this?

the 'ripristina' of a well can mean many things - it depends on what you have as 'incamiciatura' for a start, whether its steel or pvc.  The fact that is already 110m if great for you, but are the intending to drill further?  If you're in a zone where you need a steel lining, it will be 60 euros per linear metre just for the lining, plus hte cost of drilling.   As its been out of use for 10 years, it isnt going to be in the best condition, and given the pumps cost alot - about 2000 euros for a decent one which will work at that depth, theres no point sinking it to have it ruined quickly.    It seems alot, but its a good investment-

I also have a well on my property, which I have not used.  But our neighbour, with our permission, pumps out water using his own pump and generator when he runs short of water on his property.
I would be interested in knowing whether you have to go to a specialist firm/builder to have this work done, as in the future we would like to use the water from the well to water our orto/flower garden.

... Just a mention of further costs due to pumping the water. When I have done an electrical consumption audit I occasionally track down abnormal consumption down to irrigation.  It's a bit like pool pumping. The high costs of pool pumping are a thing of the past due to the latest motors (PWMPMM's) so it might be worth looking to see if similar tech is now in well pumps.
While I'm at it may I suggest that bigger is not always better - a smaller pump running for longer stints will last longer than a big one short cycling
