Cost of Irrigation System

Post by mlinsin on Thu Mar 09, 2017 6:27 pm

Hi,

we are in the final stages of the house project so now landscaping is on the agenda.
Our property is not that large (around 750 sqm) but the quotes I have received for putting in an irrigation system are unbelievable (at least for me).

We have hedges around the property and obviously some shrubs and trees and around 300 sqm of lawn
I have received quotes for 8000 and 9000 Euros!
Are irrigation systems sooo expensive in Italy?

Does anyone know a company around Monteleone, Orvieto that does irrigation systems?

thanks

Have you thought of doing it yourself? Most good Brico shops sell all the pipes and nozzles, timers etc so you should be able to rig up a good rudimentary drip irrigation scheme easily enough. If you are after the full monty i.e hidden Sprinklers  etc be prepared to pay but 8/9000 € does seem steep for any syatem.

Every quote I have ever done for clients is 8000 or 9000 euros.   If you want a spray system then you need the water storage and pumps as well as tubing and nozzles.  If you want a drip system then its easy to do it yourself.  Dont go to a brico where you will pay top dollar, but to a agricutlural supply place,    Get a main tube of 22/25mm, with side spaurs of 15/18 nad 5mm indivudal drip feeders of which there is a huge choice of types.  I have done a pretty complex system over 3 levels with drips and sprays and it cost me probably 200 euros all in.   But everyting depends where your water is coming from - because you may well need a dedicated cistern and pump.

We also have installed our own irrigation system for an extensive garden area, some trees, etc. Purchased and installed regular water lines for transport, a few faucets, connected battery operated timers to faucets, and then used the small diameter lines and spray or drip devises to the specific areas. As mentioned, you need not buy at a Brico as ag stores carry these items also. A minimum of labor (you only need to trench for and bury regular water line.) and just a few hundred Euros all that was needed. Been working just fine for more than ten years, seasonally, of course. Timers have lasted all this time, just remove batteries when storing.
Actually, the timers came from the US and we used them for four years in Hawaii before bringing to Italy. Good luck.

Lidl will be selling timers in a few weeks and they're excellent, once you decipher the instructions.
