2016 olive harvest

We thought we had a bumper crop this year but when some fruit started to fall at the end of August I didn't think we would be able to wait until the end of October to pick. Decided to pick early - end of September but have now heard that there are many crops failing (from Tuscany down to some neighbours here in southern Lazio) due to olive fly. I think our crop is now blighted although there are still many healthy olives on the tree. Has anyone had any experience of this and do we just abandon the whole crop?
