ENEL electric poles repositioned directly in front of our house!

To our horror, our new neighbours, in massively landscaping a hill which has been a rolling Sabine beauty for years, have taken away so much soil that the Enel electricity poles began to be unstable. Rather than keep them on the existing level at the rear of their new pre-fab house and re-doing the foundations, they have somehow managed to persuade ENEL to raise the poles another 6 metres or so and they are now much higher up on the road, in front of our house, way above the apex of the treeline or phone cables. We are incredibly sad....a three year slog getting our casaletto in habitable order all based around lovely terrace looking onto rural Sabine slopes now features two massive concrete tall poles and cables. Needlesstosay the poles are now further away from the property on which they were made unstable in the first place...rough justice! I rang ENEL distribution who gave me a fax number to appeal to. is it worth it or am I just setting myself up for endless frustration with no result? The irony is we were saving to have the two poles on our land removed and the cables put underground and now we've got two more in even worse positions! I am wondering if ENEL would charge the same to connect up all 4 poles worth of cables if we do the excavation for the underground channels as just to do our two...in which case it might just be worth getting them all buried. Has anyone ENEL pole experience? Many thanks

Hopefully others here will be able to give some good advice. I noticed last year when neighbours (500m away) had solar panels put on the roof ENEL replaced the poles on their land with much larger poles and thicker cable. Perhaps your neighbours are thinking ahead of getting panels. I'm too not a fan of these overhead wires, but know from the UK you tend to not see them after a while. Could have been worse and they could have put them on your land! Best of luck getting it sorted, but don't let it spoil your enjoyment of the place in the meantime.

My sympathies.  ENEL is getting worse and worse, and whats more they can do or not do what they like.  As far as putting cables underground, this is not a universal solution.  ENEL is unlikely to permit cabling underground unless you are the last house on the line.  Lines which cross your land and go on to somewhere else - in my experience - ENEL will not allow you to bury.  As far as the new poles go - if they have been moved to new positions, the owner of the land should hahve at least been consulted.  Depending on the vincolato status of the land, there are also bylaws which can have an effect, so  its worth appealing, but ultimately it depends on who the owner is of the land the poles are on - the idea of a ruined view is anathema to ENEL.

Agree with modicasa, they do what they feel like. I know of one person, who had lines buried, but they were the last house, just as modi has said. Unfortunately they went back to the UK, so I could not give you any idea of the costs.

I would be surprised if there is anything you can do if the poles are not on your land. Unless you are in a National Park or area of outstanding beauty or some such other vincolo as Modi said.
