Re: interesting interview with Beppe Grillo
Yes - quite well argued, but though he acknowledges the 'evil' of 'globalization' and the pandering of vested EU interests to the IIP etc., he doesn't address the elephant in the room. (He's by no means alone in this).
Europe is a demographically challenged entity: there are far too many old people expecting funds from their states, and far too few young people funding this requirement. He's right when he says 'growth' isn't a useful concept - but he fails to make the leap from 'not useful' to impossible.
Polarising nations within Europe (which is what Grillo and eg. Farage find meets with popular support) is just a bit of politicking on the sidelines. Okay they have to do this, but it would be nice if (assuming they have any pretensions toward intellectualism, (which I doubt)) they would paint the whole picture honestly.
The trouble (seems to me) is that the rather idealistic (stop future wars) concept behind the creation of the European Community has been hijacked by financial interests, and that Germany has (probably inadvertently) managed to benefit itself by understanding this on a logistical level (their companies are run by engineers, not accountants). The result of this, in my opinion, is that war becomes much more likely.
But nobody is going to tell Europe that their 'cake' has got a lot too small to be usefully shared.
