Butterflies and moths

Has anyone else noticed that this year there are not only huge numbers of butterflies around but also that there are many varieties that I have never seen before in the 10 years of living in Le Marche? We are used to the very big and beautiful black and white butterflies with beautifully shaped wings with points on them, but this year I have seen several types which I can't identify. I am not sure whether they are moths or butterflies, but I saw one which was quite big and looked dun brown with its wings folded, and then bright red and black when it took flight. I saw another that with wings folded looked just the shape of the green triangular chocolate with the nuts in in Quality Street, but is was cream with black diagonal stripes. When it flew, it look just like a Red Admiral. Anyone any idea about these butterflies?

Thanks Geotherm. I have looked through all of these, and my strange cream with black stripes/red admiral inside butterfly is not there. I will continue to look.
