There is certainly a huge, and unacceptable, price being paid in the lost lives of others around the world to provide the 'cheap' clothes we in the west seem to demand.  http://theboar.org/2013/11/28/the-forgotten-victims-of-the-bangladesh-factory-collapse/#.Upu1ZuK-9QI

Think the main culprits are much closer to the problem .

Many of those fake items that are sold at the markets or on the streets by immigrants ( also exploted) are produced at workshops (better described as slave houses) like the one which caught fire. They work under difficult conditions.

Light the blue touchpaper.................!!!!!

It has been pouring with snow, followed by very heavy rain...............lots of people have struggled badly in the last week HERE in this country !! I am really sorry to hear of anybodies misfortunes, but to say......Oh I feel for these people...............is NOT ENOUGH !!! To say a few words to get a 'reply' notched up on the forum is ??????

This is the 'western' world, 48 hours without electricity..............

I agree with you "V, a woman died in Pescara, drowned in an underpass. But 48 hours without electric is unfortunately not that uncommon in the western world, normally due to extreme circumstances as was this. We ourselves spent 5 days winter 2012 trapped in our house with snow from zero inch depth to 12 feet in places. Fortunately the electric was off only sporadically for a few hours at a time. I know it made us reflect on our circumstances as it obviously has done with you. However, unless I've missed something/post, I'm not too sure what you are trying to put over. Certainly your experience will not go without others been helped by it, simply by your posting about the awful event. In fact the more detail the better as anyone looking to buy may gain by the knowledge of it. Heaven forbid if it occurs and someone takes ill as happened to people we know living in Abruzzo - with isolation come new dangers we are not used to coping with.

And Vicino, what is your point? I'm afraid I'm at a loss to see the connection between lack of Electricity and people being burnt alive.

Steve,

I think the fact that these things CAN happen anywhere, the fact that 48 hrs without electricity is a relatively minor factor but........... 'officials' do not seem to know one is without electricity, .............very old people nearby where we live were left on their own. Officials don't seem to know what is going on behind closed doors.

This is obviously not the same as people dying in fires (!), but, be aware.

Please just knock on their doors in the next few months !

Well I certainly think the circumstances were extreme and serious (and still are), this tell you how ... Flood info LINK From what I understand from This it looks like the ongoing aftermath could cause even more tragic news.

Vicino two solutions there:-
1) ring up ENEL (on your mobile) and tell them the situation and ask what they intend to do about it.
2) go to your nearest Brico and buy a generator and then stop off at the AGIP station to get some fuel.
Life goes on for you, get a little perspective here.
