Motoring Disasters
Like JulianaAlice I had a scary moment a couple of weeks ago.
I was driving home in a hire car about 11:00pm when I hit something in the road that I couldn't/didn't see. Whatever it was (pothole or lump of metal) it shredded my front tyre and buckled the wheel.
I limped into the car park of a local restaurant (where I'm not a regular) which was thankfully still open although just closing. As the car was undrivable I went in and asked if they could order me a taxi.
Not a bit of it!! "A taxi will take at least an hour to come at this time of night. Where do you live?"
"About 5km up the road" I replied.
"No problem. Jump in my car outside and I'll drive you home" said the owner.
And he did! And when I took him a bottle of good whiskey a few days later to say "Grazie mille" he was thrilled, said it was quite unnecessary and it had been his pleasure!
I just don't see that happening in the UK.

Re: Motoring Disasters
Taking into account the late hour, it must have been quite a scary experience. Fortunately, that nice person came to your rescue. I guess that you will become a regular client of that restaurant...
